My neighbor has only been able to achieve 14 MPG and that is being nice to it. He has been to the dealer 10 times for mileage issues and smoking and no power. The dealer did a manual regen and that helped the power. He is not happy with the engine, but loves the truck.

I dont see how he could say the truck has no power when it has the second most in the trucks out right now...not to mention the dual turbos... The magazine tested 2 trucks the powerstroke and the V-10, the powerstroke got 21 on highway and 18 in city... but this could have been an open highway and at 34 mph I dont know lol..but i dont believe your power lacking story, sounds to me like your neighbor dont know what there talking about.

Lack of fuel economy has been a big complaint for new 6.4L Ford owners. While there are a few guys reporting good fuel mileage, there are a lot more who aren't.
If the manual regen helped the power, then there may be something wrong with the truck's PCM not doing the regen as needed or the particulate filter sensors. If the particulate filter is plugged up, the truck won't make the power (or fuel mileage) it should. He is using the REQUIRED ULSD fuel isn't he? I've read of Ford issuing a recent re-flash to the PCM that concerns the particulate filter regeneration process. If his truck hasn't had the re-flash, it may help.
Has he had all the injectors checked? The smoking may be due to a sticking injector which, unfortunately for Ford, have started cropping up. That's unfortunate. I was considering a Super Duty back when I bought my Dodge, but the 6.0L was having so much trouble, I decided not to. I love my Dodge, but when it comes time for another new truck, I may again consider a Ford F250 IF the new 6.4L can prove itself.

Well I figured the 450's wouldnt get great mileage id say there geared low, the truck im talkin about was a F-250 and thats the mileage I was wondering about, and Ford messed up stoppin the production of there 7.3L diesel it was a great engine and got great mileage, the 6.0 is junk im a huge ford man and I wouldnt have one with a 6.0L diesel...Id love to see Ford and Caterpillar team up and produce a small diesel for there pickups

The 450's DO NOT get the mpg that our dealer said it would, 14 was average per the salesman, our 450's best to date is 10.1 LOL but who cares we can tow a house if we wanted right or at least thats what my husband claims ( its his truck ) all I have hauled is groceries and a ton of hay Hmmmm come to think of it I dont think he even knows I drive it........maybe I better erase that last part
A friend has a 08 f-250 and they are claiming 15 mpg hwy, he hasnt said what city is yet, and seems happy with his truck hasnt said anything about lack of power, but was complaining about a weird noise, passenger side front a low thump not mechanical something to do with the heater.
I would like to say though that my 2000 f-350 dually (7.3) will outrun the friends 250 and the 450 so I dont know if the whole twin turbo is all it is cracked up to be, I overheard the guys talking about it, one turbo to get you going the other to maintain but my stock truck walked off and left them go girl power ! but they are the ones who challenged me another downside to the new trucks is they are governed (sp) at 83 mph but that didnt play a part in who won.

With 4.88:1 gearing, the F-450 should be able to pull a house. Check out www.pickuptruck.com. . They conducted a series of tests between the "big 3's" new 2007 3/4-ton gasser and 1-ton diesel dually trucks, plus the F-450. They tested everything from how much the truck squatted with 1000 lbs in the bed, to how quick they could pull a 10,000lb trailer up a 15% grade from a stand still. One thing they commented on was they feel that Ford is getting ripped off with the compound-turbo setup on the 6.4L. The single turbo on the Dodge Cummins and Chevy Duramax both made more power with far less lag than the twin-turbo Powerstroke. Just some food for thought.

And just to let you know I checked out that website, and they tested a 2003, and 2007 Ford trucks and both had the 6.0L no where did it say the tested the 6.4L, and the ford still won in several categories...i wished that they wouldnt fool with Navistar myself and just make their own or try to strike a deal with Caterpilar...we all know that Cummins cant come CLOSE TO A CAT ENGINE....and Isuzu makes Duramax so i mean how reliabe is that, at least Fords engine are made by International which is a great truck

Sorry, but I don't think you read the right story. It's on the right side of the home page toward the top. Here is the actual link. Take your time, it's quite long! http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/2007/shootout/hdshootout1.html

I read the story and the F-250 had the same times as the Chevrolet Duramax and it has a bigger engine and more horsepower so app. the turbos are doing something...and dodge was terrible, and yes the bigger Fords have a CAT engine im talkin about puttin one in a F-250...

Um, did you look at the same article I did? Here. Let me help you. In every one of the comparisons, The Ford F-350 either nearly tied the Dodge or came in dead last.
