7.3 running very bad

I have a 2001 F-250 with the 7.3 power stroke. It has started running like a v8 gas engine missing 3 plugs. I had the cam sensor replaced, but this didnt help at all. When I first crank it in the morning it will crank up fine. But after idleing for just a few minutes, it starts "dieseling" very badly, then goes dead. It takes about 30seconds to a full minute to crank it then. This happens several times before it will finally stay cranked and run. After about 5 minutes of warming up I can then drive it without it immediately going dead, but it runs very bad. It skips, blows out white smoke at times, engine light comes on, then goes off. As it changes into high gear it gets worse. And sometimes when I stop, it will again go dead. Takes another minute, or two to get it cranked again. And sometimes it takes off like it just got a dose of jet fuel, but that is short lived. It blows the white smoke only when it is running and skipping at its worst. Had it checked and no codes. Any ideas???

fuel pump? injectors? hpop(high pressure oil pump)? list could go on and on. where did you get it scanned? some scanners wont find everything.

White smoke sounds like a timing issue. on the fords doesnt the ecm control the timing?. also the fuel pressure may be low, cracked hoses and other parts of the fuel system is what i would look at.
good luck.!

what kind of diesel are you running, 7.3 do not like the ultra low sulfur. I am a diesel tech a local ford dealership.and some to try is to remove icp sensor and hook a high pressure gauage at least 3000 psi and crank engine pressure over should be about 500 psi and idle and 2100 at wot

Judging from the description of your problem it sounds like the icp censor is bad. icp= Injection control pressure.

It sits on the drivers side front cylinder head and has a round plug.

It will make the engine stumble shortly after starting often throw a check engine light and will just all round act extremely odd. Also the trucks have been recalled due to the cam position sensor so if you haven't taken the truck in for that it would be a good time to address that aswell. Also if you happen to have a scanner or an aftermarket hand held tuner pull the codes outta the ecm. More then likely going to be a p16-- series code or a p12-- series code. By the way after resolving don't forget to reset the ecm
