Front end shakes

The mechanics in my small town don't have a clue what the problem is with my 05 Dodge 2500 Quad Cab diesel 4x4.  I had a local shop put on a front end leveling kit which was the spacer on top of the coil spring.  Since then when going 65 plus MPH and hitting a good bump with the left front tire, the front end shakes very bad until I slow down to 40 MPH.  I've replaced the tires, shocks and steering stabilizer.  One local guy says the wheel bearing and ball joints are going out, another says they are tight and feel and look good.  The local Dodge dealer doesn't have a clue either.  The dealer and the manufacturer of the leveling kit both thought the steering stablizer was at fault.  But the problem occurs with the stock stabilizer and the new one I put on.  I've been thinking of trading the truck in on something else but love the power and the look of the Dodge.  I haven't taken the leveling kit off but have thought about it.  Does anyone have any suggestions.

i would try taking the leveling kit off.

Just throwing this out there but is the front drive shaft in phase and do both angles cancel each other out ?

Your reply got me thinking.  I've researched every installation instruction I could find on 2" leveling kits and found two interesting things. Most companies suggest to mark the spring and the spring pocket before removing.  Why?  If the spring is installed in a different position what would it do?  Another company states that the coil springs are side specific meaning the passenger spring is different from the drivers side.  My problem always seams to occur when I hit a bump on the drivers side.  I wonder if springs are installed incorrectly.  Sorry, I couldn't find any mention regarding the spacers being specific for either side.

I but the 2 in leveling kit on my 01 dodge diesel after seening it on my friend dad 05 dodge 3500 we both love the way it leveled out our trucks, but the only thing I have found is that it did not completly level mine the truck does have alot more springs than my buddies 02 dodge diesel. Both trucks have been taking care of and not abused.  But I do not have any problems with the install my wife actually wanted to help luckly I found one that does not mined getting dirty or grease under her finger nails, but good luck with your ride. P.S. I wouldn't trade yours in I would take the time to find out what is wrong. Maybe try a good rep. 4-4 shop that has had that problem or call the company back, they could have a recall and you was not gave notice too.  Good luck

I have put on 2 or 3 leveling kits and that right one side is longer that the other due to rotation of the moter if there not installed on the right side then you will have problems. Also the position of the spring makes a difrence to just check it out I think it will fix your problem.

Are you saying the right side coil is longer or the spacer?  And when you say right side you mean the drivers side?  I'm assuming the dodge dealer should know how the coils are positioned or would a repair manual have it?  Sorry, I'm full of questions.  Believe me though, I closer to solving this than my local help.  Thanks!

HEH CHEATER DODGE LABELS THEIR COILS BY NUMBER,FOR INSTANCE THE DRIVER SIDE WILL HAVE A HEAVIER COIL DUE TO THE WEIGHT OFFSET OF THE DRIVER SIDE,THE NUMBERS ARE 38 ON DRIVER AND 37 ON PASSENGER,BY THE WAY THE LEFT SIDE IS ALWAYS THE DRIVERS SIDE,WHEN SITTING IN THE TRUCK,EVEN AT THE PARTS STORE,BUT ITS HARD FOR ANYONE TO MISTAKE DRIVER OR PASSEBGER WHEN TRYING TO DISCRIBE SOMETHING,ANYWAYS,YOU SHOULD GET AN ALIGNMENT AFTER YOU PUT ANY LIFT OR LEVELING KIT ON.I WILL BET YOUR PAYCHECK IF YOU GET AN ALIGNMENT YOUR PROBLEM WILL DISAPPEAR.ALSO IF YOU REMOVED THE LEVELING KIT I WILL GARRANTY IT WILL ALSO GO AWAY.I ALSO HAVE A FEELING THAT WHEN YOUR TRUCK SHAKES I FEEL LIKE THE FRONT END IS COMING OFF...   RIGHT!!!!!BUT ITS ONLY TILL YOU SLOW IT DOWN WITH THE BRAKES,AND ABOUT 3 SECONDS IT STOPS WOULD THIS BE CORRECT.

the postion of the spring is very important, if they did not get it lined up back to the stock location even if its off a 1/4 inch, you will have big problems, best thing for you to do is take it back to them, tell them the problem, make them try to fix it, then go get it aligned and if it still does it, than remove the leveling kit all together, if it does it, than youve got serious problems and need to take it to a good 4x4 shop, maybe a 4wheelparts center is near you, heres their website, www.4wheelparts.com . ive never heard of these kits causing problems if installed correctly

This is known as the "Death Wobble". A friend of mine gave me his leveling kit because he could not get rid of this shake. I have researched this to no end and have not found the secret to fixing it. One guy will do ball joints and it goes away, but the next guy will have no luck doing the same. Some say shocks or track bar, alignment just pick one and you'll get someones answer.

death wobble is right... i have an 07 3500 4X4 megacab dually and its suspension is bone stock except for 265-70-17 mickey thompsons and when im going about 65mph or higher on the highway and hit a bump like on an overpass, my truck goes into a shaking frenzy and the steering wheel shimmys uncontrollably. i have to slow down to around 35mph to get it to stop. its an experience in itself to say the least. ive read so many posts about dodges that do this and most have been diesel trucks. im not sure if the tires caused it or not since i changed them the day i got the truck. im still trying to figure out how to get rid of this problem since the truck is uncontrollable when it happens. anybody else have this issue also???

I believe that you will find that the spacers had magnified an alianment problem with youre caster setting.

I'd take it back to the dealership for warranty work, because somethings not right especially being a new truck. I know lots of guys running 05,06 Dodges with and without leveling kits and no ones having front end problems.

I have the same death wobble on 05 diesel. Had problem with stock wheels. Recently replaced wheels and tires with 285 BFGs and added a leveling kit. Wobble got worse. Replaced ball joints and shocks.  Wobble is better but still there.  If you find the solution please e-mail me: t.j.anderton@msn.com. I will do the same.  Thanks.
