Hi, I have a 1993 Dodge Ram D150, Fully loaded truck in great shape everything works it only has 120,000kms on it, its defenitly worth keeping the problem is that there is a very thursty Magnum 5.9L under the hood, mind you it does have a lot of power and sounds great with the loud exhaust on it but i am a huge fan of the cummins my last truck was a 1990 dodge ram D350 with the cummins tuned up and no muffler and i loved that thing so what i want to do is put a cummins in my half ton i could find an old rusty donor pretty easy and cheap but i was wondering what all needs to be transfered over (im thinking trany, rearend, drive shaft, and front suspension) im wondering if i could use my frame or would it just be easyer to use my body on a 3/4 ton frame already with a cummins? would a cummins just bolt into a 1/2 ton frame? would like to know if anyone has done this or if anyone knows the best way in doing it thanks

if your set on doing it it would be better to have a donor truck for all the little parts your gunna need and find the donor with the same trans auto or manuel that way it will be replacing parts then put the 360 in the donor and sell it.

Actually, if the frame is straight on the original donor truck, I might just put the newer body on the chassis that originally had the Cummins. I think the 3/4-1 tons have a little beefier frame than the half-tons. Plus, the Cummins is a heavy engine. But I'm not a Mopar pro.

this question has been asked a lot lately.  What esanchez said is what id  do, take the body off of your half ton and put on the 3/4 donor, much easier that way.  plus youll have the heavier frame and axles already in place that you're gonna need anyway.  Id also try to swap the wiring (all of it) from the donor body over to the new body.  Anyway, thats my 2 cents worth.  Actually, just fyi, the frames and bodies are pretty much interchangeable on all dodge trucks from 1973-1993,not much was change structure wise durign those years. there are some minor differences such as hole locations and small things like that but that wont make a difference at all. you can also take fenders from a 73 and put on a 93, most of the differences came in the grille areas and the hoods, the rest were pretty much identical. heck even the speedo gear and the neutral safety switch on the 727 automatic can actually be used in any automatic from 1964-03 chrysler auto including the 904, A518, 46RE and even the 47re.  Every auto trans chrysler has used since 1964 was designed off of the muscle car era hemi and other hi-po motor backing 727 tranny.ive done it to dads truck last march, took a neutral safety switch out of my 74 charger 904 and put in his 99 5.9 46RE
1999 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins 24 valve, 5spd with south bend 550hp+ clutch, 150 horse injectors, Fram Boost intake(for now), Edge Juice with attitude, 150 gph fass fuel pump and much more, all together 450 dyno proven HP and 1170 ft lbs.

I actually heard one of the major issues Dodge had during the R&D stage for the first Cummins back in the 80s was getting the transmissions to hold up from the Cummins' torque. I would try to swap over the tranny from the Cummins if you could. I'd probably do a rebuild on it, maybe a new converter, if you plan on hot-rodding it at all.

ok everything sounds good so how hard is it going to be to change over the wiring harness? and also i was thinking about maybe using a 4x4 3/4 ( my half ton is only 2wd) is that alot of work or just a hole in the floor? i like the easy 2wd idea tho and the less things to go bad
