Audi has just announced it's going to offer it's Q7 SUV with a 6.0L V-12 turbodiesel in Europe that cranks out 500 horsepower and 738 lbs./ft. of torque FROM THE FACTORY!!

No word yet on if or when it's coming to North America. What do you guys think of this?  

yes, very nice... would be cool you could tow a very large boat with that sucker..

Whats cool about it is that it makes 500HP which means That the rpm redline must be Higher than most other diesels. (this is according to HP=work done/time interval)  

And the new 2 litre VW/Audi 4 cylinder diesel is available in a version that is rated at 170HP (equivalent to 510HP 6 litre).  All of the VW/Audi diesels over about the same horsepower per cylinder in 3, 4, 5, V6, V8, V10 and V12 models.  The all have four valves per cylinder and double overhead camshafts.

The new 4½ litre dohc GM Diesel V8 is not too far behind.

In Europe, Ford has a V8 diesel in the 4-4½ litre range that is competitive, as does Mercedes and BMW.  

I forgot, Cadillac's new VM Motori 2.9 litre V6 - which is in the 250HP range...  

Yeah, that VM Motori engine is pretty sweet. I hope GM ends up offering it in the U.S.

Heard it's right about 5,000 RPM for this engine, which for a diesel, is really spinning!
