My buddy told me i can run my rig up to 1500 egt. I think he is retarded, dont the head melt at 1600? I have run it to 1500 before, but only to prove a point to other trucks. This egt problem of mine is annoying how do i lower it? Any advise 04 QC 3/4 ton 5.9

Average temps: stock truck (in degrees Fahrenheit -- ***
Idle – 250 to 450 Cruise no load – 400 to 700 Cruise with trailer – 500 to 800 Pulling hill no load – 500 to 1000 Pulling hill with trailer – 900 to 1250
Temperatures will vary whenever the throttle is moved or the terrain changes. The peak number is the most important while towing, the ISB can be safely run up to 1450 for short bursts and 1350 all day long. This number is strongly affected by modifications weather it be Air flow or Fuel delivery. If air flow and fuel flow are increased EQUALLY, (Very important words here!), we can increase power to very impressive levels with no increase in EGT or smoke.

Yeah, 1500 is definitely the danger zone. I wouldn't keep it in that area for long. If you're routinely hitting temperatures in that neighborhood, you're probably running too rich. Remember, diesels are the exact opposite of gassers in that regard.

i set my edge to de-fuel at 1350 and with my injectors i can hit that very quickly. not sure whats on your truck, more info is needed to get you some lowering ideas.

Its A pretty much stock 2004.5 ram 2500 QC SB. It has 3:73 gears and a auto tranns. I just put a Edge jucie with attitude on it and strait piped it. I think its the jucie attitude making it over rev; which then makes the egt easily reach 1500. But who knows? i know i dont.

ok so i am living proof that the cummins motor in my 03 can handle higher egts. I am not saying all trucks r the same. I have hit 2,300 degrees. I hit this with my edge on stage six and 90 horse injectors on a stock turbo. I have not lost any power or anything knocking in the motor. I also have 186,000 miles on the truck and i pull it about every other week during pulling season. U can safely run the motor to that high. Just make sure that u let the turbo cool. I ran my truck hitting 1,900 for a year and no problems. Like i said just run good oil and let it cool. Yea it is an easy way to wear the turbo but if u pushing that much fuel u will eventually need to upgrade the turbo. The cummins motor is built strong so let it have it. I would say that when u start to see anything over 1,600 degrees to take ur foot out of it.

it sounds to me like you need more col air in the engine consider adding air intake upgrades and a aftermarket turbo tha should bring it down to about 900-1200

I would think at 2,300 degrees, your engine would be a glowing lump of smoldering metal. I wonder if they mounted the temperature probe correctly if you see temps that high.

Ya, i would never run mine to 2300. 1500 is bad enough and when i stop i can smell the difference lol. What bugs me the most is that this truck peak hp seems to be around 2700rpm yet it shifts at 3100rpm -+100!!!! This is a serious problem for me. It has a signifagant loss of power above 2900rpm -+100 Is this tranny problems? Can i change my shift points?

wheres your probe mounted? theres no way its accurate.
if im racing i shift at 2400-2600, by doing so, it puts the rpm back at 1800 which is where my peak power is. i rarely go 100 percent wide open though, simply cause my EGTs hit 1500 degrees and the edge begins to de-fuel at 1350 anyway. Im still runnning a modified stock hx35 turbo so i need an upgrade to be able to go full throttle. i can usually go about 80 percent.

You really need more air. Air intake and full 4 inch exhaust AT LEAST! You'll probably stay toasty with those two things but it should bring you down to the 12-1300 range.

The probe is in the right spot. I have just the edge reading egt temp. going to be filling the cab with gauges soon. Then i will have 2 reading egts. One before the turbo and one after the turbo. pep r always surprised to hear i have had it that high. Well my mechanic who is also has 2 trucks that pull and he sees 1,900 plus pulling both trucks. He has fully build motors and running a 2.8 charger and water to keep it cool and it is still running that high. Now since i have put the new turbo and redone the hole air in and out of the truck i still hit about 1,600 with my edge on stage 6. i am not to worried about it. I see these high egts on the steet with no load. When i hook it to the sled and run stage 6 i maybe only hit about 1,300. I don't know why it is like this but i don't know. Truck runs strong and starts every day. So untill it blow i am going to run it like i stole it.

the reason its actually cooler while towing maybe because the load is helpin the turbo hit more boost and flow more air, still 1600 is too high but if your comfortable with it, then hey its your truck, your motor and money, drive and run it as hot as you want. it just seems waaaaaaayyyy high, im running the juice w/ attitude with level 6 hotlocked , 150 hp ddp injectors on the stock turbo and i rarely hit 1500 degree unless i really push hard, on the street that is, under load, itll hit way over 1650 at which the juice defuels it, though i keep the thing set to defuel at anything above 1300 just because i cant afford to melt pistons or valves
