Been hearing a lot pros and cons on the DPF in misc. threads.  Considering just the filter what do you think, what is your experience.

DPFs are still a pretty new technology. I've made the analogy several times they're like when catalytic converters first came out in the '70s. Bottom line...they sucked. But as time went on and technology got better, they weren't the power-suckers they were when they first came out.

DPFs are kind of the same deal right now. They definitely cost you power & fuel economy right now for the sake of cleaner emissions. In a few years, I think the technology will be much more advanced to the point where these after-treatment technologies won't cost so much power. Heck, they're even getting to the point where they can control the emissions within the cylinder, which may make some of the after-treatment unnecessary.

Essentially, if you want to keep your warranty, don't mess with your DPF. If you don't care, rip it off.

Has any one put in a DPF delete kit on 6.7 cummings?  If so have you had any problems of any kind?  Did it make any differance on milage and power?

I have seen trucks with the delete kit and have heard of people getting up to 5 or 6 mpg better but i personally have not tried it (don't have the right gear).

What about the filter filling up with soot, and having to get it cleaned out. True/ false, any thoughts?

Tampering with an Emissions device is an action that is illegal. If you live in a state that smog checks or get stopped by the state patrol for a vehicle check, It would be a nice fat fine for you to pay up for. My $0.02

Yep! I talked to 2 dealers. Both said warranty is voided if you mess with the DPF. Only one thing to do, DON'T buy an new truck until they figure out what they're doing! Wish I had my money back on my '08 F-250. Mistakes like this are what helps the Japanese to gain market share every year!

Bstew, nobody is exempt from the new diesel emissions laws. Making that statement about the Japanese is totally irrelevant to this conversation, considering neither Toyota nor Nissan has a 3/4-ton diesel on the market right now. Shoot, it looks like the next Titan is going to be a re-badged Ram anyway!

Supposedly Toyota is working on some pretty advanced diesel stuff with their trucks, so they might be holding off 'til the technology is perfected, but if they had a diesel on the market today, it would have to comply with all the same emissions standards as everyone else.

The whole "clean diesel" phenomenon is new to everyone. I've made the analogy many times that there are a lot of parallels with diesels and DPFs and SCR catalysts, and when catalytic converters first came out on gassers in the '70s. The early ones sucked, but now, we have cars like the Z06 and ZR1 Vette that run clean as a whistle with more than 500 hp. Give it a few years, and the diesel emissions stuff won't be the power and mileage suckers that they are now.

Our 2008 3500 truck is in the shop. It's been towed 3 times in 10 days with different problems. I sent the following message to Dodge and wanted other folks to know what happened to my family on Friday.

Message sent to Dedge.com

When we picked up our truck from the Lithia Dealership on August 25, the Catalytic warning starting acting up. A independent mechanic contacted the Medford Dodge dealership who stated it would not cause the car to disable and to run it at high speed for 45 min. I also called to verify that and was told the truck would not disable. The Dodge manual also states this. But on Aug 29, my husband and daughter were almost killed when the truck shut itself off and my Husband lost power steering and brakes going around a curve at HWY speed with no warning whatsoever. The sheriff came out to help my family afterward. This should not have happened. The GM here at Lithia stated the particulate filter became clogged, but no one can see our truck for more than a week or more because of only having 1 diesel mechanic. We now again a second time have to use a rental vehicle that we have to pay for. Dodge needs to know about this issue. We were never told the electrical in our truck had to be "reflashed" to account for this problem---although we've been at 2 different dealerships for scheduled maintenance . Before all this happened we had a "check engine" light on for weeks and had an appt with the Medford Dealership on Sept 3 to have it fixed, before our truck gave out) I need a quick response from Dodge because we are without a vehicle and want to know why this information is not being sent to consumers as a potential threat to safety.

It says you have an 04.5.  You don't have a DPF.  That didn't come out till 07.5.  But it's your lie tell it anyway you want.

you should not have to pay anything for a rental your truck is new and they have to give you a  rental car from the time your truck screws up till the fix it not when they get around to work on it i would call dodge comp. and tell them whats going on and demand that they compansite you for your loss when you buy a truck down in alabama if it tears up they will loan you a truck like what you had to use all you have to tell them is its a work truck and you need a truck not a car

You sure you're not confusing the diesel cat with the DPF? Two different things. Diesel cats have been on trucks going back for about the past 5 years.
