I have recently aquired a rare diesel car from a brother-in-law that was sitting for about 6-years, and I am having a very tough time finding repair manuals and some parts for it. It is an "86" Ford Escort with a diesel engine and a five speed. I can not even find the manufacture name on the engine. I think I may need an injector pump in the near future, but can not find a web site for NipponDenso injector pumps. It is a great little car and gets about 45 mpg hwy. Any help would be very much apprediated.

Yep, I've seen a few. Based on some research I've done, it looks like it's a Mazda diesel engine. Most of the discussions I've read say it's pretty hard to find parts for. The VW diesel is a lot easier to find parts for (because a lot more of them were sold.) I think I read NAPA auto parts carries some parts for them, but you might have to dig a little to find some of the more obscure parts.

Yep, I had to go to my local Ford dealer to get a fuel filter, and that was a chore in itself. luckily, it is also a large Ford Truck dealer and repair as well. He was able to go on line to other Ford dealers and was able to find two fuel filers in someones NOS and on the shelf, he had two of them and was more than willing to ship them to me. I even went to FO-MO-CO and they said no match was avialable for this vehicle. I was however able to go to HELM manuals and get a diesel suppliment to the owners manuat l. About all it was good for was to let me know that there is not a lift pump in the tank, it is built into the injection pump. They did have a whole set of shop manuals but it didn't say if it included the diesel. Thanks for the info, I'll check NAPA.

I think they offered the same engine in some '80s-model Mazda 626 models, so you might be able to get some parts through Mazda dealers. Just a thought.
I also found this Escort Page on CarDomain that has quite a bit of info on the Escort Diesel.

Just do like some of the old guys do around here. Make your own fuel filter set-up air filter set-up. Think of the car as a tractor not a car.
Still here!!!
