I have a 08 2500HD Mega Cab with 3.73 gears and the 6 sp auto, my avg MPG is 11.55 thru 12K miles. I have tracked my mileage from day one. The best I every achieved is 14 MPG and the lowest is 9.3 MPG. I pull a 5er that has a combine weight of 16,900 LBS with my truck. This was fully loaded with fuel, food and gear, but no water in the trailer tanks this is a scaled weight. The 9.3 MPG was going up and down hills doing 65 MPH out west in South Dakota. This is the best pulling truck on the market today.
Hope this helps.

thanks guys - I'm getting 9-10mpg with a hemi and was considering a new diesel but it doesn't sound like it's that much better.
i get 14-16 daily driving, at a casual pace. I have a 29' 5th wheel and may buy bigger. Still contemplating a diesel.

No I have not had any issues with the DPF. I have had one code thrown on the engine but this was do to my error. I started the truck on a very cold Jan night -20F and did not let the truck warm up enough. I think the cold was P148 if I remember correctly.

22-24 mpg? that sounds much better than some of the 11-13's I've been hearing. Where do you live though, and is that city or highway?
