Hello. I am new to this forum and I am hoping to find some assistance.
My vehicle: 2005 Dodge, 3500 4 door, 5.9 with a factory six speed manual transmisson.
I waited many years to be able to afford a Dodge Cummins Diesel and I have been extremely happy with my truck but I have one problem.
I drive 2 to 2 1/2 hours a day to get to and from work so the bulk of my driving is open freeway. My fuel mileage is great but I believe I can get more if I could remedy my transmission problem.
I run my truck at 2000 rpm which puts me at 66 to 68 mph and I have found that this speed and rpm range currently puts me at optimum fuel mileage which is 24.7 (and occasionally 25) miles per gallon which I believe is excellent for a full size pickup.
When on the freeway my truck just seems to feel like it needs one more gear.
My thinking is that, if I had One more gear that obviously I could run my truck at 75 to 78 mph and get the same and possibly a little better fuel mileage but this is my problem.
I am sure that no one makes a 7 speed manual trans. for this application but I was wondering if anyone knows of any type of "over drive" kit that is applicable for the 6 speed manual trans. for the Dodge Cummins? But I am probably swatting at the air on this one, anyway, Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you and Keep On Truck'in hizson

I don't know of anyone that makes a 7-speed manual, but I know there are some gear-splitter or overdrive kits out there. Their website is a little hokey, but High Impact Gear might have what you're looking for.
You might also want to go with a slightly taller rear axle ratio. If you're at 4.10 right now, you could probably go to a 3.73 and still retain most of your towing and hauling capability.
