Howdy all Im new so Im hoping for some help here. Ive got a 02 2500 5.9 24v that seems to not want to accelerate often unless you press the pedal almost completely to the floor then it takes off during normal driving. Also when pulling my trailer uphill (10,000lbs) it tends to heat up rapidly to a point then it defuels until it cools a bit. Doesnt do this on the flat freeway or with a lighter load.Cooling fan seems to work ok when its not too hot. I had a hypertech programer on it but set back to stock before last trip because it really heated up when programed to the third setting.Other than that it runs well, starts well and is getting great milage. Throwing trouble codes, p0216, p0217, p1693, p1694 and once it had p0215 and p0602 HELP!

sounds like the classic signs of injection pump failure or a bad ECM, you might have you ECM reflashed and see if it fixes the problem.

P0216 Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure
P0217 Decreased Engine Performance Due To Engine Overheating Condition
P1693 DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM
P1694 No CCD Messages Received From ECM
P0215 Fuel Injection Pump Control Circuit
also sounds like your TPS (throttle position sensor) might be going out
Let the good coal roll Warning !!!! I have an opinion and I am not afraid to use it !!!!!!

Thanks Im at a loss to figure this prob out. The throttle problem is the worst when the truck is cold in the morning but stops after heating up. but continues to be a problem intermitantly through out the day. Ive also been told that dodge has a problem with electrical conections also that may have something to do with it. I drove it from tucson to san diego a bit back not towing at 65-80 mph and had no problems got 19-24 mpg im wondering if the injection pump was bad wouldnt it have problems all the time? It accellerates fine and seems to run, start quickly, and idle great. poldergeists? haunted? its making me crazy

Have you checked the radiator to make sure it is clean? The breather tube on the front of the engine empties into a pill bottle with holes in it. Its a stupid design because when the oil level in the bottle gets too high the fan sucks it out of there and blows it all over. Amazingly enough it will even suck it into the radiator(don't ask me how but it happens) and then dirt will collect and pretty soon you'll have a plugged radiator. The best way to clean it would be to pull it out and powerwash it but if nothing else take it to the carwash and pay special attention to that area. Its hard to hit from the front cause the CAC is in the way. Just be careful not to get the nozzle too close because too much pressure can ruin your radiator. That might help your overheating problem. As for the other problems get a can of contact cleaner and clean all the electrical connectors between the VP and ECM as well as the sensors. If it is still repeatedly throwing 216 codes afterwards then I'm afraid the VP is on its way out.
