Good Day Gents, After searching the world wide web, i found this website and love it. I am a mechanical engineer by profession and have been in petrol vehicles. I now have the opportunity to buy a diesel to do some serious towing due to which i have a few queries before i buy something i have no clue about. I found a decent looking/decent running 1991 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9 Cummins Turbo standard cab 5 speed standard with dualie's with a new turbo, alt, fuel pump battery and lots of other new stuff. I love the truck, trouble is the speedometer is broken and is showing 450K kms (281K miles), the first owner had it since new and now my collegue at work has it for 5 months but needs a 4x4 and is williung to sell it to me.(who is an honest and truthful person), according to him it is perfect and will be trouble free. My question is: What should i be looking for to have a trouble free vehicle, no trouble in extreme cold weather(-45C/-50F) and reliable performance and worry free cross country drives. I know that Cummins are the best engines we can buy and the 5.9 is a legend. I know that the valves need adjustment because on revving the engine, i can hear a slight ticking sound. What else should i look into, will this be a wise buy and will be with me for years to come ? what are some of the common trouble areas and issues Should i go ahead and buy it ? Thanks for all the help you guys will provide Regards Taiyab
