What do you guys think about the trans lock ups.  Are they worth it.  Are trans brakes really hard on the transmission or not?  Well I am sure it is, but what about doing my first boost launch with Nitrous.

Honestly with the power you're pushing, I wouldn't do it unless I had a totally rebuilt tranny that I know could handle it.

The other concern I'd have would be the tranny shaft and U-joints .... you don't need to be smacking the underside of your truck bed with a twisted shaft.

Yeah I understand,  I am in the process of getting a whole new tranny.  The guy I talk to is working out a killer deal for a Goerend Tranny, I just didn't know much about those trans brakes unfortunately.  And do you know what kind of shaft I will need so I don't twist it, and how much do those cost?

You'd need something along the lines that a sled pull truck would use, so it'll cost a pretty penny and be built like a tank.

You might also want to look at the shaft cage they make for sled pull trucks that surrounds the shaft to prevent it from beating the bottom of the truck.

Oh, and you're gonna need alot of rubbing alcohol.  It makes great white smoke for burn-outs.

Go to a good machine shop that specializes in drive lines and have them build you a beefed up one.

Ditto on the machine shop, and they should be able to minimize costs too.

Alright I will be checking it out today.  What about traction bars?  You know how much those run

No, but you could ask the machine shop about it as well.

All traction bars really do is stop the rear end from twisting in the opposite direct of the tires when they turn and you mount them from the rear axle to the frame.

Do they even offer trans brakes for these transmissions? I wasn't aware that they did. Trans brakes usually work by locking the tranny into 1st and reverse at the same time. I can't imagine they are good for them but if you have good clutches and a good VB I doubt it will hurt it. Also why would you need a trans brake? You'll get the same effect by standing on the brake pedal and giving the motor fuel. That will spool up your turbo just fine. Which I assume is the reason your asking. I wouldn't spend the money on one.

As for driveshafts... How much Hp are you putting out? I seriously doubt you need a beffier one. If your worried about it get some driveshaft loops and call it good. Not sure how much traction bars will run ya but I do know they improve the ride quite a bit on these big trucks.

Well I am making my truck drag ready for next year.  My 3 stage 250 shot of Nitrous just came in and will be installed next week.  I am hoping to deliver darn close to 1000 to the wheel, so I know traction will be a BIG issue.  Thats why I am looking at the bars, and the shafts just incase I bend one too.

Kazairl, the trans brake allows you to do a full throttle launch, if you didn't have a trans brake the power would deffantly over come the brakes. Having the ability to do a full throttle launch will increase your 60ft time and you will have a faster and more consistant reaction time.

ah. I didn't realize that you were using nitrous. If your looking to make that much power I can see why your concerned.

Joe, I know what a trans brake does and I see the benefits. I however didn't know how much of a benefit it would be over just using the brakes. What you say makes sense however.

Yeah,  well I just wanted some opinions,  I talk to Richard brown regularly and he told me to wait for a moment before I get something like.  I never ran my truck in the 1/4 mile but I am expecting low 11's hopefully with all my other upgrades.  So hopefully that works out, who knows.  Will keep you all posted
