BMW has announced it's going to offer diesel versions of the 3-series and X5 for the 2009 model year, but I'd be more interested in a diesel version of the 1-series, and specifically, the 5-door (not currently sold in the U.S.)

Do you think there's a chance the U.S. market will get a 1-series diesel, or do you think the X5 and 3 is all we're going to see?

Make my 1 series hatch an awd.  We need to apply pressure to BMWNA.  The BMW car club was a big part of the drive to bring the M3 to the US.  Any 1 series deisel would add to their CAFE average and counter a high $ gasoline V10 that gets about 12 mpg.  Wake up BMW!

I'm with ya there, Martin. A 5-door 1-series diesel would be my ticket. The coupe is cool and all, but a little impractical for me.

if i had a corpate job that made me have to get a luxury car to work i would love it.but since i have a 2005 VW Passat TDI there is no reason why i should dump 40 grand on a car that will probably have the same performance and beside i have too much love for diesel trucks where i would be happy to dump 40 grand into them

Buying BMW 124d would be my contribution to US energy crises. Would be a fun+green car. Most definitively be interested in buying one.

With the 2009 Honda Accord and other options available in 2009, I think/hope/pray clean diesel going to become mainstream soon. Wonder if that will result in cheaper diesel versus gas? After all, isn't it cheaper to produce diesel?

I read recently that BMW is considering four-cylinder engines for the U.S. market. Whether or not that includes diesels, it didn't say. I hope so, though.
