Just wondering if anyone has swapped there 6.2 for a newer chevy diesel, and if so how was it?

Swapping to a 6.5 would probably be easier, since it's more closely related to the 6.2. The Duramax is a whole different animal.

It figures i have seen some old trucks that had a 6.2 converted to a 6.5.  I was wondering if they had the same mounts, because if not converting to a 6.6 might be just as much of a pain but would have greater payout.

Without a doubt, the Duramax will give you more power right out of the box, and the potential for a lot more on top of that! But I can tell you it'll be a bear of a swap from both a hardware and electronics standpoint. But if you're willing to hunker down and commit to it, it'd be a pretty sweet setup. Also, I've seen several Cummins swaps into that bodystyle of GM truck. That's also an option.

A cummins would be nice, but for the price i could live with a Duramax.  The 21 second 0-60 on the 6.2 would get on anyones nerves.

I haven't priced 'em out. You can get a Dmax cheaper than a Cummins?

I don't know about new, but used i have been seeing Duramaxs for up to 2k less and that is just browsing.  But i also think that GM produces more HD trucks than Dodge so there is a greater supply.  I bet i could get a power stroke for a grand or 2 less than the Duramax.

I've heard that the 6.5 is an easier swap but you have to watch and make sure the turbo's have enough clearance from the frame.  The Duramax is supposed to be an even wider engine and won't clear the frame at all.
