I am considering taking the 454 out of my 1996 Chevy K2500 Suburban and replacing it with a 6.5TD. What are all the issues to be considered? Any good info resources?
Thanx

really? are you serious your gonna pull out a 454 to put in a 6.5??!! seems like a lot of work for not that great of a motor, if you did go through with it i doubt you would notice much if any power gain, maybe a slight milage gain but you really need to consider a different motor if you gonna go with all the swap work, a duramax will make you really happy and so would a cummins 5.9 in it, whats your prefernece?
My dream truck:78 chevrolet K30 crew cab longbed, srw with d60, 14 bolt, nv4500, np205 and a 600 series cummins 5.9 rolling on 37 inc tires!!! A solid axle chevy with a cummins, it just dosn't get better then this. My real truck: 2004.5 Dogde Ram 3500 crew cab longbed 4x4, 5.9 cummins of course! All stock sadly Blowin smoke of course!!

I love my 6.5 i did some minor work 2 the DB2 injection pump 4inch exhuast and an intake it pulls the 4wheelers and camper no problem at 80 miles an hour while obtaining great fuel mileage. I have freinds that have a powerstorke a duramax and a cummins and the were very impressed with my work and had no ideal that a 6.5 could run like that so i think u would be happy with that swap

blacksmoke, thanks for the tips! Yeah, a lot of people dismiss the 6.5 just because there aren't a ton of products out there for it, but if you know what you're doing, and you know where to go, there are ways to tune it for more power.

i am about to do the same thing. i have a 94 subruban with the 6.5 which i wrecked last year. i just bought a 97 suburban with a bad 454. have you had any success with this progect or are you still trying to get it off the groung? currently i am seeking out a wiring harness from a 96 or newer 6.5l equipped truck/suburban. my biggest issue is the obdi to obdii difference between my donor vehicle and recipient vehicle. two completley different engine wiring configurations, computer locations, etc, etc. as for the 454 setup it has everything else you need, larger radiator, hydroboost, transcooler. only things missing are right torque convertor and computer programing for shift point as well as the engine oil cooler.
