So I'm a junior mechanical engineering student that grew up on the farm.  i grew up driving ford tractors and dodge trucks and, no offense, but i'd rather be cummin than strokin any day.  Sadly i drive an '04 Trailblazer LS.. what ever gets the job done i guess.. cant really be too picky when your only income comes from monthly parties for eager freshmen.. but im tired of getting 17 mpg when my buddy's massive truck gets 23.. so i devised a plan that doesnt make much sense financially but what the hell, in a couple years ill be a bachelor on engineer's salary.  I want to drop a diesel in my trailblazer and i want a cummins.  What is it going to take? I kinda figured a new tranny and lots of work on the rear end, but what else? will a 5.9L fit? how much do you think im looking at? is it even plausible?

if our not worried about financially, i would just buy a used cummins. it is EXTREMLY expensive to pull 5.9l 12 and put it on a 24v truck or vice versa. but to drop a 5.9 in a blazer, your looking at some serious mods to the frame for motor mount. hell, i dont even think your LS could handle the weight of a 5.9. now a 4bt right be a little better for ya. smaller motor, lighter, and easier on the frame. new trans, rear end, drive shafts (or high mods to stock), frame fabs. pretty much a huge pain in the arss! i put a 12ver in a 03' dodge and it came to, for used motors, $6300! and that was from one dodge to another, your talking about an LS. if you got the balls and want a cummins, go 4BT all the way. if it was me, buy a used dodge cummins and save yourself the hassle!

Man I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no way to fit a 5.9 Cummins in a Chevy Trailblazer.  The frame won't support it, you'd need to completely re-do the suspension, and even if you could get past those hurdles you'd still need to move the body out of the way of the engine.

With a dry weight around 1100 pounds that engine is just too big for your truck.

Now if you really want a Cummins under the hood, the 4BT should fit with minimal issues and no concern about weight.
