I was wondering what other mods I can do to beat a lightning my buddy has one and is always braggin about it, and I just want to beat him so he'll shut up about his stupid gasser. I have a 99 with a edge juice w/ attitude and a southbend clutch rated at 400hp and 700 ft lbs of torque. I want to add set of 300 hp bosch injectors at 50hp to each cylinder and a water/methanol kit a 4 inch straight to my already present 5 inch stacks and a FASS 150 gph lift pump
1999 24 valve with Edge Juice w/ Attitude, Southbend Clutch, 5 inch Stacks, 4 inch down pipe, Bosch 40 hp injectors, and Fass Fuel System

Is the lightning stock? How close can you get to beating him? I dont really have any solution to your problem, other than twin turbos, but if your like me thats out of your budget, too. I was wondering cause i have a friend who has a lightning that i would love to beat, but its not stock, its got a Kenne Bell aftermarket supercharger, air intake, custom tune, new cam, custom tune, high performance driveshaft, Jasper Engines performance transmission, aftermarket heads and pistons, and its lowered maybe an inch more than a regular lighning. Id rather have my dually but damn that thing is fast. Id love to beat him but im not sure i could afford it. The only reason he ever loses is traction. He usually runs mid 13s, but hes halfway down the track before the tires quit spinning, and they start again every time it shifts, then they spin for a few feet, grab hold, then let go when he shifts. I might not have to worry bout it though, its for sale. He might win the drag race, but he has to run premium gas, and it takes a quarter tank just to crank his, hahaha, i can get 20 mpg plus on the highway, run mid 16's, and i got 4 wheel drive and 33's on a dually. HAHAHAHAHA, diesels are the best hands down. If you never beat your friends lighning, just remind him that you can run what you do and get good gas mileage, and you could even run biodiesel if you wanted. Its not as good as winnin but its better than nothing.

WEIGHT
make his truck wiegh as much as your truck does Use a 4-wheel or something then go to the scales
7000lb truck vs. a 4500lb truck not to fair of a race, huh?
yes it will make him mad but hey the race has to be fair, huh?
or you can lose some weight off your truck like seats, spare tire, and some other nik-naks (tire jack ect...)
Let the good coal roll Warning !!!! I have an opinion and I am not afraid to use it !!!!!!

Fact is, if you had an automatic transmission, you'd probably be faster than him already. You spen all your time shifting while all he has to do is plant the skinny pedal and steer.

This thread is several months old, but here ya go.
You wanna whoop on a Lightning, here is how ya do it. I just tore one a new azz yesterday.
My list of mods is in my truck's profile.
See below....
Okay, I'm not a big fan of street racing and I normally like to keep things on the track, ***
I smoked this dudes azz TWICE!
He came rollin up on me and nailed it. I hammered it and friggin walked away from his azz.
We came to the next light. He looks over and nods......
You could hear his supercharger just screamin'....
No chance bud......the boost just keeps coming on this.
1700 RPM, 23 psi of boost........game over at the light!
Within 3 seconds he was several lengths behind me.
I seriously thought he might be closer than that, but I absolutely just WALKED away from this guy.
Got to the next light, he had his window down and had a look of total disbelief. Asked what the hell was done to it and I just let him know that it was a lot more than that thing will ever touch.
I STOMPED HIS AZZ BAD!

simple... beat him with traction... put it in 4-hi and stomp on it... you'll get so much traction you won't know what to do with it... you'll blow his doors off from the light...

I've got a buddy with a Lightning and we've raced
1/4 mile with me in 4wd with 10psi boosted launch...No prob...Im running mid 12's and he's maybe in the mid to high 13's
Now from a roll on its a little different...at 70mph with us both doing a WOT roll on, it pretty close...At that speed, my 7400 lbs hurts me pretty bad..
I'm at 584 HP right now and like I said, that way more than you'll need to beat him in the quarter with a boosted launch!!!
Once your in the high 400 range in HP you should have to much trouble....But the weight of our trucks hurts us a lot!!!
"CUMMINS GUYS KEEP IT STRAIGHT!!! THOSE OTHER GUYS SWING BOTH WAYS!!!"

Swole, like you said, the heavy weight of the big trucks puts them at a disadvantage. Makes me wonder what the tuning potential is going to be with the half-ton diesels, and if their lighter weight will prove to be a performance advantage.

Half ton diesels are going to be fun when it comes to performance. But 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have there stamp on the, I can do everything badge.
