It seems like to much work to swap everything over every year! Does anyone know if you can have your vehicle registered in AZ, but live in CA and just have the AZ DMV send the tags to a AZ PO BOX and then have the Post office forward them to CA?
Hear they are testing for:
-Visual Inspection of Smog Components -OBD II Check with scan tool, "three monitors must run to completion" -Visual Smoke Check, "most likely at idle and 2500 RPM" -Probably EVAP Test

Do diesels even have an EVAP? I'm thinking not, because at all the diesel pumps in CA, they don't have the accordion-style nozzle, just the standard filler. The only thing that might be concerning is the visual smoke check, if you have a really aggressive tune on your truck.

As in gas cap test. It is considered part of the EVAP test for cars and I doubt they will make up a new test name

With EFI Live, can you save the original PCM/ECM/FICM info and reboot it?
Thanks

You might be right about the gas cap test. But I know diesel fuel is a lot less volatile than gasoline, so there's a lot less evaporative emissions from diesel fuel than from gasoline.

Well said, but they could easily pressure test the cap and give it a visual inspection for cracks around the seal and filler neck like they do for cars in CA. It would be an easy way to fail a truck and then charge another 35-45 dollars for a retest, but you could be correct in that the CA DMV might be fair and not bother!

I just called Jerry from the BAR in Fresno CA and he said the BAR information is more up to date than the DMV info. Anything over 14,000 GVW is considered HD and thus will not need to be tested. He said they are working on some tail pipe parameters, but it is unlikely the test will up until 2011.
