I bought my 2009 Jetta TDI on October 7th. I just took it on my first road trip this weekend where I went from Las Vegas, NV to Big Bear Lake, CA. I filled the tank in Big Bear (3.73gal) and drove 221 miles home. 98% of them were highway miles. I arrived in Vegas in 3+ hours and filled up with my tripometer at 221 miles. I paid $3.49gal and it filled the tank with 4.3 gallons. 221 / 4.3 = 51 MPG! oh and I averaged 78 MPH!
I love my TDI. I have the navigation system with Sirius Satellite. It's as nice as my old BMW!

Wow. That's awesome fuel economy. I drove one and was pretty impressed. The window-sticker fuel economy seems a little low, but if you can get an honest 50 mpg highway, that's darned impressive.

Fully-loaded, they're a tad over $30k. But you can get one starting for the low-to-mid $20s.
