I have a question, I have a 1993 B700 5.9 5 spd bus I converted to a hauler/camper unit for hualing my mud truck. It works great and the wife loves it. My grandfather has a 1993 F700 with the 5.9 and allison auto. Both equipped ith the P pump. My bus says 190hp on the pump and my grandfathers says 175 on the pump. What hp would his truck be if i put my fuel plate in his truck at the stock position?? Would it be 190hp?? would he notice the difference?? Hes 68 years old and not looking to gain serious hp. Hes a retired farmer and sells and hauls big round bales on it. He wants "just bit more power would help get moving and up that large hill out of St. Croix...." Or what if i put a #10 plate in his truck would the hp be at 200??
Im a heavy equipment mechanic/opertator and know my way around most anything but never did any performance upgrades on diesel trucks.

It has a p-pump? they must have used them a little earlier in the big trucks than they did in the pickups. If all he is looking for is a little more power I wouldn't bother switching plates. Take the one he has and push it forward. That will fuel it more agressively. But will have the same driving characteristics as before, it will just be given a little more fuel.

I thought about moving it forward. However he wants a sure thing, which it is, but he doesn't want to much that he will be replacing his auto tranny in a year. How far would I move it to give it 25"ish" hp NO more preferably. 10 thousands of an inch?? 20 thousands of an inch? how much?? thank you very much for your input.
For my bus on the other hand thats what i was going to do  since i have  the big 5speed tranny not really worried about breaking it clutch seems good, but i'll find out . I am going to install a pyrometer and move the plate forward.

Does anyone have another way to get the 25"ish" horsepower that my grandfather would like to get out of his truck with out serious cost?

I'd say move it forward about an 1/8 of an inch and see how you like it. If it gets too smokey you can dial it out using the AFC or just move it back. Also make sure you block the wastegate so it produces horsepower rather than just smoke.  I have a pretty good diagram of the tuning mechanisms on the p7100 pump but its on my work computer. I'll try and get it foy you tomorrow.

The very top is the AFC. That red rubber thing is a diagphram. Just to the left of the diagaphram is a spring and the star wheel.  Notice how the diagphram is connected to a plate down by the fuel plate. About middle of the picture towards the left side). The right side of the diagphram sees boost pressure. When the boost pressure becomes high enough. That plate is pushed back and allows the governor arm to ride on the fuel plate. The star wheel is used to adjust the tension on the spring so that it either needs more or less boost to push the stop plate back. Its basically a smoke control device.

The fuel plate controls the fuel delivery based on rpm. The govenor arm on the right will ride up and down on the plate and the plate's profile is what controls the fuel delivery on different RPMS.

Thats what I would recommend anyways. As long as you don't push it very far forward you won't have to worry about too much boost. But if you are you can buy an adjustable wastegate as opposed to blocking it off.

I would also install a 3k GSK. If will help with the drivability a lot. TST would be a pretty good place to buy from as well as quiz for info.

You are correct on the gov springs. That was another thing I already looked into and plan on it when i alter the fuel plate. Thanks
