it's the 65 mpg car ford won't sell in the US... because it's a diesel and ford doesn't believe it will sell... and they may be right... people need to wake up and see that diesel is just simply a better fuel... just look at this article...

Couldn't agree more. Americans by-and-large have their heads stuck in the sand about diesels. They still associate them with the GM diesels from the '80s. It looks like the tide may be slowly turning, though. The new Jetta TDI is selling like hotcakes, by all indications. I think we may see a few new diesel car models by 2010-11.

I had a 84 burban a few years back that had 400.000 kilometers on it when I bought it. THe head gaskets where never done. the old guy who had it pulled a 28ft travel trailer since new from Nova Scotia to Florida and back twice a year until the year I bought it(2004). It came with a dossier full of reciepts of everything that had been done to it since new(I mean everything including valve stems) they also included two trannys and two starters amongst them. I drove this thing (beat it was more like it) for two more years with only another starter replaced and 110.000 km more. not all 6.2's where junk just most of them, when you had a good one it was good for a while.

I think the reference to "bad diesels" is more with the early GM 5.7L modified 350's and some of the unknown V-6 diesels. The 5.7L was great on mileage but it was a total dog, and would smoke horribly even while idling.
The 6.2L was better and even though it had its quirks it was a huge step forward from the 5.7L and it was a much better engine.

Yeah, the 6.2 is totally unrelated to the Olds 5.7 diesel. The main complaint I heard about the 6.2 wasn't so much that it was unreliable, but that it was underpowered. But let's be honest, it hasn't been until the last couple of years that diesels were really known for power. For most of the time since their invention, diesel engines were best known for their economy and reliability. And under those criteria, the 6.2 was a decent engine.
