So you get more boost, more smoke, and more power with a manual transmission versus an automatic? You one post wonders absolutely amaze me.
The engine DOES NOT and WILL NOT make more power, smoke, or boost based solely on the transmission. Boost is generated by the turbo, smoke is generated by a bad tune (normally more diesel injected than burned during combustion), and power is generated by the proper tuning of air intake, fuel, timing, combustion, and how quickly (and freely) the intake and exhaust moves.
The transmission and how it's built dictate how the horsepower and torque get to the wheels.
Sometimes I wonder ......

if you really want to know what works the best just look out on the interstate or truck stops and you'll see it. t guys like me who hotshot run more ctd's then any other motor wether its a dodge, 650 ford, or a frieghtline fl70. its the motor that does the best all around
I burn more diesel and run more miles in a week the most of you people do in a month. ctds that have been used 97 3500, 98.5 3500, 98.5 3500,01 3500, 03 3500. those that are being used 06 3500, 07 3500. and yea these trucks earn their living
