is it worth it to buy the hot rod pump or just buy a stock one. i want around 500 horse or 600 but i see guys all the time with a stock pump. i was just curious how they do that and what i need to do to get that . i have a 02 cummins 5 sp with a edge comp chip a 5 inch exhaust and afe intake. just the basics i know but im curious on what works when its still a daily driver.

From everything I've read it appears the "Hot Rod" pump has re-worked electronics, a kind of built in chip...so the fact that you already have an Edge comp I'd say your better off just getting a stock one. As for covering the basics you haven't mentioned LIFT PUMP AND GAUGES!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!YOU CAN'T RUN THE STOCK LIFT PUMP WITH THESE MODS...PERIOD!!!

heard way to many horrior stories about how bad the are on the street meaning they have no street manors i would stick to the stock one and spend the extra money on a turbo

Starve a VP44 and you'll be buying a new one real quick, so I'm going with BCRAM on this one. Gauges, including a fuel pressure gauge, and the lift pump should be your first mods if you want ANY kind of power gains. Once you got that then you can add the turbo.
