Hi Guys. Well, as you know, Diesel Power does the Diesel Power Challenge, an invitation-only event for contestants that submit entries.

What I'd like to ask you guys is if you think Diesel Power should host an open-to-the-public all-diesel vehicle show? My questions to you are:

1) Where should it be hosted? Should we do East-Coast, Midwest, and West-Coast shows?

2) What classes would you have (Truck, SUV, Car, etc.?)

3) What events would you have? (1/4 mile, tractor pull, burnout contest, smoke contest?)

4) What would you name it? (The Diesel Power "Smoke-Out", "Smokefest")?

I'd like to hear your guys' thoughts!

1) Maybe yall should do some seasonal shows, maybe one in the far north east in the summer, since theres a lot of canadian DP members, and it would be too cold in the winter up there... maybe one in the southeast in the fall, the midwest in spring and in the west in the winter. I know thats alot of work but with your readers being from so far away, it would allow more folks to go. Besides, we aint got many shows down here, it seems like its all in/around Alberta, the midwest, and california.

2) classes could get creative...
  -TRUCK    *Mini
            *1/2 ton
            *Daily Driver
            *Tow Rig
            *Show
            *Off-Road

  -SUV      *Street/Strip
            *Off-road

  -CAR

  -TRACTOR  *Classic/Restored
            *Modern
3)evnets...1/4 mile drags, tractor pull, burnout, show n' shine, etc. As cool as a moke contest would be, with all the enviromentalist liberal losers out there, id sure hate to see DP get bad press, i imagin theres gonna be smoke anyway, with or without a contest, lol
4)...STILL STUCK ON A NAME...
2005 Dodge Ram 3500 4 Door 4Wd Longbed 6SPD manual, Silverline 4 inch exhaust,ATS Performance Exhaust Manifold, K&N Intake,CFM Intake Manifold, Edge Juice w/Attitude, Recon Smoked Roof and Fender Lights, 285/70/17 Firestone M/Ts,  MUCH MUCH MORE to come, one day...when im not so BROKE.....

Host Locations
Why not hold these events at an actual facility?  Places like California Speedway in Fontana, CA, for a winter meet, Daytona in the spring (hello spring break),  Pocono Speedway for the summer, and Indianapolis in the fall (Cummins would LOVE this one since they're right around the corner).

Classes
Truck, SUV, Car/Mini, Show and Shine, and perhaps even a kit car class (kit cars with diesels).

Events
Show, tractor pull, 1/4 mile, max mileage, and a Diesel Power Showdown.  First and second place winners of the showdown from each location should then meet for an annual "King of the Hill" event.  Four events provides eight people for the "King of the Hill" event.

Name of event
Use the name of the location with the event, like "California Speedway Diesel Shootout", or "Brickyard Diesel Shootout", and use "Diesel Power Showdown" for the king of the hill style event.

Locations:Diesel power mag should build their own places with a asphalt/concrete drag strip, concrete pull strip, clay pull strip, weight station, stands(of course),and a parking lot for show trucks.

Clases:Truck/SUV pulls-7000lb, 9000lb, and a hot diesel class(all clases will have 4WD and 2WD except hot diesel, and open class(anything that has wheels).Parking Lot show-Stock, Modified, Super Modified.Truck/SUV/Car Drags-500-700hp,800+.

Events: 1/4 and 1/2 mile drag, clay sled pull, tug a truck on clay or concrete, Parking lot show, custom jobs contest (custom made parts), burnout contest.

Name of the event:Diesel Power Nationals(DPN), Diesel Power Championships(DPC).

That just sounds good to me!

Locations: You guys should definitely do a tour, though I realize the expense in that. If a tour isn't feasible, then a single, multi-day event in a CENTRALIZED location. Kinda like the Sturges bike rally.

Open To: Anything diesel powered.

Events: 1/4 mile empty drag, 1/8 mile trailer-tow drag, clay sled pull for trucks AND tractors, snow n' shine, burnout contest, and maybe a tail-gate grub/BBQ contest!.

Name of the event: Diesel Power Nationals(DPN) does sound like a winner.

Also, will this be a family event or more of an over 21 (alcohol) kinda thing? I vote for family.

I-6 Cummins guys are keepin' it straight. Those other boys swing both ways.

Diesel Power Mag should build their own place?

I guess you don't realize that building a place like this just for Diesel Power Mag to have would cost

For just the basics:

- Weight scales
- A 1/4 mile drag strip with stands
- A clay tractor pull strip with stands
- A food court with beer garden
- And a garaged area for a "show and shine" event
- Finally a parking lot

This would become a multi-million dollar place ..... not including upkeep, property tax, liquor license, etc.

The expense of utilizing a known establishment (any major raceway, for example) would pale in comparision to Diesel Power Mag building and maintaining their own.  Other places already have this and really there is no sense in building something new when there are so many already there and well known.

Definatly, Indianapolis would be an excellent place to hold it, they hold a 4wheeler jamboree there each year and its packed with Jeeps and trucks.  A Diesel only even would be awsome, I would bring the old skool GMC down.  If they did a "bed toys" catagory, I could bring our 782d diesel powered Cub Cadet garden tractor in the bed.  And it would give me an excuse to finaly replace the dash pad and finish up the interior of the truck.  For a name, call it the Diesel Jamboree, then it can be held at different locations around the country.  You can get the various diesel vendors to set up booths.  Have onsite clinics on diesel topics from fixing up an old pickup to repowering with diesels to the newest issues diesel owners face.  Have it deal with anything diesel powered short of draging in farm tractors.  Keep the focus on road worthy vehicles.  One could do a whole seperate show if we started dragging in anything diesel powered.  I want to see the newest stuff on the road that I cannot afford, to old school diesels like I drive every day.  I want to see onsite vendors with new injectors, that I really need at the moment, rebuilt injector pumps, maybe even offer onsite troubleshooting.   You could get decal and graphics folks to have booths for airbrushing designs, custom decals ect.  Truck pulls would be good, smoke shows while awsome to watch, does really send the totaly wrong message to the general public that we so despiratly need to convert to diesel ownership.  There really needs to be a focus on clean diesel power and how we can make it work in a day to day enviorment and make it affordable to the masses.  We all cant afford a pickup truck that costs what a decent house cost a few years ago.  Invitations need to be send to major auto companys to display thier latest ideas for diesel powered vehicles in this country.  Let them see that the demand IS there if they build it.  With the amount of diesel magazines I see at the store, and how fast they sell, there is a need for a diesel only event.  A total diesel only showcase!
