this is a cinderella story! it will be long but worth reading. this is my first post on here! i just turned 18 as of now i drive a 1998 ford f150 V6... its sad i know but it has always been there when i needed it and never had one problem. (115,094 miles) mom has a 2004 for 6.0L diesel (read signiture) they know i have wanted it from day one. a little history about this. dad bought me my f150 when i was 13... i have since worked off the debt and now i own it. same year he bought my pickup he bought moms to. i have always wanted my moms pickup since day one. the first time dad floored it stock i was like wow this is gunna be mine someday! dad had a 94 ford turbo diesel he pulled the (then) 32 foot montana camper with. one day mom was pulling the camper and blew the 94 up... dad had a 96 powerstroke and was gunna use it to pull the camper but there was something wrong with it forever and it never had much power at all even with a chip! that 94 would walk all over it stock! anyways dad said well lets get a new pickup... so he bought moms 2004 in 2003 he thought it wouldnt be much of a puller just becasue of the smaller displacement... hooked on to the 32 foot montana camper and he pulled the first big hill and lost only 3 mph (this was with 700 miles on the pickup) dad said OMG! im getting one too! so he did... he bought a 2004 6.0L dually a few days later to make it the camper puller and work pickup. that 2004 dually (dads pickup) he chipped it with a quadzilla chip then a GREEN CAI... and a 4 inch turbo back exhaust. sounded amazing. after a few damn good months he bought a 2005 excel 35 foot camper... dads pickup pulled that 35 foot excel with EASE! up every hill around here without losing a mile a hour (we live in the black hills) that pickup was amazing... well after 62,000 miles of being absolutley the best pulling pickup he has had it stretched the head studs. so he traded it for his new 2008...
back on the story. moms pickup has never had one problem what so ever in 6 years and 94,4XX miles and has had been chipped its whole life. i take that back there was a problem with a U-joint last year. anyways nothing ever been wrong with the motor... mom and dad know i have loved this pickup ever since they first bought it. yesterday dad is on the comp and books moms pickup on KBB it books for 23,600... i was thinkin why is he bookin it... then he goes and books mine right after the fact... mine books for 3,410... im thinkin okay i know why he booked them both... dad says BUD! (nickname) come up stairs! i did... he says sit down... so i did... he said so do you still want your moms pickup... i said without missing a beat hell yes! he said here look at the numbers and we will sit down and figure this out. so i did and i said man moms pickup is worth a little more then i expected it to be. he said yeah me to! he said well we DO NOT! want to sell it... but we know how bad you want it and it is a damn good pickup so we will sell it to you... im thinkin sweet will get a good deal on it! then he said at nothing less then FULL price tho... i said ufff okay yeah i think i can do that... he said well with you only being 18 and living under our roof we will have to co-sign a loan for you... and we are not gunna do that unless you make payments to us untill december 15th so you get a taste of how paying the bank will feel... and if you want to back out of the deal or you dont make a payment you will not get the pickup but will get to keep whatever money you have payed. he said a bank will not do that... im thinkin wow they are erally helpin me out! i said okay lets do it... he said okay sounds good bud. make payments to us untill december 15th of 500 a month and you will see what paying the bank will be like. and then we will trust you enough to sign a loan for you. i said okay sounds good...
so all in all he will take my pickup and the 20,000 and sign the title of moms pickup over to me. as long as i make the payments on time. i have to keep driving my pickup untill december 15th and they said they will keep moms pickup under 100,000 so i can still buy and extended warranty if i chose to... (with it being a 6.0L i will for sure... cause with there history nothin is sayin somethin will go wrong out of the blue!)
so do you guys think this is a good deal? 2004 ford f250 (read signiture) for 23,600? i think its steep... but considering i have put almost every mile on moms pickup and i know exactly what its been through i am not scared to take the risk of buying it.
P.S. i would never buy a used 6.0L from someone else... the only reason i am buying this one is becasue i know exactly what its been through and it will not shut down any time soon. and about 90 percent of the miles are just car miles... so its had kind of an easy life.
good idea for me or bad?

i dont know i bought my 02' 7.3 powerstroke already lifted with nice tires for 16,000 in september 08' but it had 103,000 miles on it. you could probably find a better deal out there, but it does have the sentimental value and the assurance of knowing its history. so its really up to you

dang right i *** sometimes mom lets me drive it to school... its just stock body style... (sleeper) all the kids with the ricers come up and say... i heard you say this thing is fast.. i say na its stock... but ill run ya to make you feel better about your ricer... they say okay... raced a 3000 gt that thought he was fast... i was to 25 mph before he got to ten! lol gotta love 4 wheel drive launches!
also beat a passat i think it was called... he thought it was fast... nope not compared to moms pickup and the only thing i have lost to was a suburu STI pulls up beside me at the stop light flip in 4X4 i start spooling the turbo so he knows i wanna go... light turns green im at about 1800 rpm... let off the brake... munch it... bark the tires in 4X4!!! (dry pavement) i was amazed... i got him from 0-25 after that he walked away... lol

Sounds like the KBB value is the Dealer price and not the regular re-sale price (person to person). It's a bit on the high side, but since you know the truck that's a good trade-off.

It's WAY high. But if that's what you want... get it. Just remember, you're going to spend MUCH more in the end. Especially being a young kid... We all know you're going to flog the truck, skip oil changes, and just generally not have any idea of what to do once you break it... Save your money and keep the gasser. Mechanics and dealerships charge rediculous prices to fix diesels because they know you don't have a clue. What are you gonna do once the spool valves in the injectors start sticking? What about when your vanes in your turbo quit moving, do you know how to install headstuds? EGR deletes? Are you rich?
These are all things you need to ask yourself. Owning a tuned 6.0 is NOT a cheap venture, and it's hard to get a dealer to install studs aftermarket parts for cheap.

dude... im not gunna skip oil changes!!! are you kidding me... if it were not for me this truck would not be running the way it is... mom dont do *** just drives it sometimes... im not a kid that dont know anyhting about diesels... dad owns a business and everything is diesel... i grew up around diesels and know what the diffrence in gas and diesel is... sure some kids might not... but i *** i grew up around them... the only thing that we have that is not diesel is my pickup the 4 wheeler and lawn mower... everything else is diesel... dad and i just rebuilt the engine in his 690D-LC excavator. i know about diesels... trust me. maybe not as much as some of you... but that is part of the reason i am on this sight... to learn more about them...
and the KBB value on both the pickups was based on private party value... not trade in or retail... private party... so yeah...

as for the rest of what you said sleeper i am not rich... i will treat this pickup very well cause i know its 6.0L and... yes i do know how to BUY a new turbo and do it myself... i may be a kid but i know enough to work on this pickup... last year my buddies dads 6.0L's oil pump quit working... we changed it in a day... sure might of takin awhile but we did it and not with 30 some thousand miles after we replaced it it is still running good... take your time and know what your doing and you can do anything... there is no way i would let a stealership work on anything of mine... they make there money in the service department most of the time... becasue they do shitty work and people have to keep coming in to have *** fixed...
bottom line i would never have any kind of a dealer work on anything i own...
im sure you think i dont know *** about diesels... go ahead and think that... i guess i understand... but dont tell me i dont know anything about them just casue im 18... trust me i *** and if you dont i guess i dont care...
anyways... you said not have any idea of not knowing what to do when i break it... well let me tell you this... if its something i do not know how to fix myself i will have my dad and grandpa help me... so yeah...... i dont plan on breaking anything soon... sure im 18... i have a heavy foot... but i know about the 6.0L problems... so i will do my best to avoid them by not driving like a maniac and just enjoying the pickup all around...
