CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE PRODUCTION DATES FOR THE CATERPILLAR 3408 V8 ENGINE????
I WAS GOING TO REBUILT AN OLD CATEREPILLAR 3208 V8 NON TURBO ENGINE FOR MY OLD FORD F7000. BUT I FOUND THERE IS A BIGGER AND MORE POWERFULL-NOT TO MENTION TURBO DIESEL-V8 CATERPILLAR ENGINE, THE 3408 V8.
IF ANY ONE KNOWS WERE TO GET INFORMATION AND SPECS OF CATERPILLAR 3408 ENGINES I WILL APRECCIATE IT.
THANKS.

Better be sure you have the room, a 3408 is huge for a HD truck let alone an F7000. I think they're around 19 litres in displacement, and weigh about as much as a pickup. A more durable engine than a 3208, that's for sure! Welch Diesel repair in Iowa can tell you in depth what they can do, good & bad points, and any other spec you could want. They're an axle shredding monster if you're looking for a big upgrade. Have you tried a websearch? A few other forums have discussed the 3408s. There's some on youtube too.
. Daily driver: 67 F100, 300, 4V, 4 spd, soon to be 4BT. My low buck fuel rate site: www.freewebs.com/nevrenufhp/index.htm

A 3408 are decent engines, but when it comes to overhauling, it costs almost as much as a newer diesel pickup, that's just to rebuild it! They big, and very heavy. They make decent power, but to be honest a C16 would leave it in the dust.

I found some specs on the 3408 at the Caterpillar website. We regrind the Caterpillar 3400 series camshafts frequently for the irrigation industry.
