Has anyone ever ran a manualy switched cooling fan or a solid unclutched fan?
I know on my KW work rig it has a manual override switch for the fan air clutch to engage the fan.
I am having cooling problems with my 02 cummins Sport.
I have changed out the fan clutch and it seems to be doing the same thing as the old one, that is it doesnt engage the fan fully when needed at high temps when uphill towing.You can at times hear it roaring and the temps come down but most of the time you cant hear it engaging when it should be for cooling.
One weird thing Ive noticed is that it seems to be engaged when you start the engine cold??
Any ideas on this?

I'd probably go to an electric fan setup. I know Jason Sands put one on one of his Cummins projects. He could share some of his experiences with you.

The electric fan setup is good.
the unclutched fan would be would be better. always working no matter what.
i may do the same on my truck.

Im wondering if its possible to lock up a stock cooling fan clutch so that the fan would be running constantly? Otherwise you would have to fab something up to adapt to the threaded fan mounting point. Any input on this?
Also can you use, and will it fit, a later model (03>Winkelectic fan clutch to hook up a manually controlled switch?

Personally, I don't think the always-on fan clutch is a great idea. It increases drag on the engine, and will probably hurt your fuel economy slightly. Going to electric fans would be the way to go, IMHO.

I agree that it would cause a little extra drag to the engine.
But what I would really like to know is can the later model electric fan clutch can be used on a 02 to rig up a manually controled cooling fan????
Anyone know if this can be done easily to a 02?? Grin

OK I'll ask again does anyone know if a later model electric controlled fan clutch used on 03 and later cummins will direct fit 02?? And if so it can be wired as manually controlled fan cluch switch on the 02??
