I have 25hp nozzles, k&n open filter and bully dog triple dog. The truck won't start in the morning unless its plugged in, and sometimes have to either it in the afternoon, when its 90 degrees out. Once you get it going, it smokes a lot, black smoke, which is usually good, but in my case I think its bad. It also knocks when you get into it going down the road, sounds like a spark knock on a gas motor. I went out and started it a few minutes ago and left it in park and ran the rpms up to 2500 and it started cutting out. Is it injectors, lift or injection pump? Any help please and thanks!

Sounds like your heater grid isn't working (pre-heats the incoming air to make starting easier), and you might have a bad injector (all the smoke).
I would take it into a good diesel mechanic and have it checked out ASAP.

Thats is exactly what happened to my 2005 about 4 months ago and the dealer waited for about a week or two and ended up beign a bad injector but unfortunatly did not fix it in time and i melted my piston. I have about the same upgrades as you too so i would recommend getting in ASAP cause a new motor will run you about$12,000 if not under warrenty.

Hey bud quick question, does it clear up and run ok afterward or does it remain the same? A bad injector is going to offset the balance of the injection sequence. It will lope on idle and accelerate like it has a miss, when it obviusly is not. The other alternative Im thinking might be a shorted map sensor (boost sensor). If the sensor is shorted, via circuitry or internally, it could result in a full boost signal to the ecm, causing the ecm to advance inj timing and increase pulse width to the injectors. Ultimately, this results in an overfuel condition causing hard starts and a very smokey rough idle.

It does clear up a little, but when you lay into it going down the road, it smokes and has a "fuel knock". When it sets and idles, you can hear what sounds like a lope, or miss. Thanks!

sounds like an injector
I burn more diesel and run more miles in a week the most of you people do in a month. ctds that have been used 97 3500, 98.5 3500, 98.5 3500,01 3500, 03 3500. those that are being used 06 3500, 07 3500. and yea these trucks earn their living
