Ok so sorry but this might be a little long. Got my new motor installed about 4500 miles ago and it has been nothing but problems since. First they put all of the old injectors back in it so i had to call chrysler and *** at them then they sent me new ones free, then the injection pump went out, then the timing gear had a whine coming from it and the dealer told me to drive it because it was just the gears beign new and they needed to mesh together?, and now the whine has come back and also I blow a *** tons of blue/white smoke everytime i shift gears. What could the smoke be from? The dealer tells me the rings have not seated yet but i talked to several people including Cummins and they all said it should not blow that color of smoke. So i'm at a loss and getting really frustrated, and i know cummins is a good motor but damn i'm starting to lose faith and thinking of tradeing off for something else. So can anyone tell me what they think? Oh yeah and one more thing the oil was just changed about 700 miles ago and now i checked my oil and i'm at the add line showing i'm low on oil and there is absolutly no leaks anywhere?

Well, chances are it's a rebuild, and not a truly "new" motor. Some rebuilds are perfectly fine, but every now and then, you get a lemon. Sounds like you might have gotten one. I'm not a Cummins pro, but there are a bunch on this forum, so I'm sure a few of them will have some good insights for you.

Well when the motor came it was in a crate and papers said the build date was 3/29/09 could it still be a rebuilt then? And if so what do i do? Do i have to file for lemon law or something?

Sorry for your luck. I would continue to work with the dealer best you can. one other thing i would suggest, find a Cummins dealer in your area, one of their trained mechanics can get it running right. Good luck.

if your truck still has those mods then they will give you grief. lemon law is for new and for one problem not several found that out on my 07
I burn more diesel and run more miles in a week the most of you people do in a month. ctds that have been used 97 3500, 98.5 3500, 98.5 3500,01 3500, 03 3500. those that are being used 06 3500, 07 3500. and yea these trucks earn their living

I kept the mods off for right now because the dealer said to wait a bit to put them back on so we will see what happens. also another question do you think it could maybe be that my turbo is going bad? I was told that if a seal was bad on the turbo it could cause oil to seep by? The dealer informed me that the left the truck outside for a day or two with the turbo exposed and it was windy as *** and dusty too.wasn't very happy with them after they told me that.

if they put the old injectors back in without checking them and they where bad then they mite have damaged the cylinder walls. the turbo would smoke all the time. as far as the rings havent set yet i bought my 07 with a 150 miles on it it and it didnt smoke so thats dealer bs. call the 800 dodge number and talk to someone above the dealer. think you mite have gotten abad rebuild plus it should be under a new warranty for the block. was it a short block or long block replacement. if short block and they didnt redo the head that could also be part of the problems. their good motors i put mine thru hell and only have had one out of the 7 go bad

The block was a long block, but yesterday we were doing a break job on it i i decided to look at the turbo. I could grab the center bolt in it and make the fins hit the sides and you could tell where it had been rubbing on it so i'm thinking the turbo is bad. Anyways i did get a hold of that 800 number and soon after the dealer called and said they wanted to get it in ASAP and that they were going to give me a diesel to drive in the mean time while they tear it down again. So i think i will be getting a new truck to drive for a while and they also said they might just buy it back from me and give me a new truck at cost or find me something i like. I will keep you guys posted though. Also would they have to pull the head apart again to check for all of that stuff right?
