Is synthetic oil ok for diesels. I don't know why it wouldn't be but a lot of people seem to think not. What do you guys use and what brands? Thanks

I use Shell Rotella T 15 40. It was recommended to me by my friend who works at a cummins service center. It has been a great oil for me so far. But i have heard bad things about some synthetic oils in cummins engines.
1999 Ram 2500 pretty much stock, big plans soon though.

why waste you hard earned money on expensive synthetics! stick with a good 15-40 oil, shell, chevron delo, and there are many others for diesels, then check with the guys at Lubrication Specialties Inc. www.lubespecinc.com for a great oil additive that will out perform any synthetic oil

I have run Amsoil 15w-40 Marine Diesel in my 2001 Dodge 5.9 24 valve Cummins from the time that I purchased it with 9,000 miles on it. I also changed over the differentials to full Amsoil synthetic as well as the transfer case with outstanding results. Now with over 75,000 miles truck runs like new and even with the 4.10 gearing due to the snow plow package, I stll get 15.5-16 mpg in the city and 18 plus on the highway. Like it or not the petroleum oils are going to go away and they dont hold up! Just before my Ford Dealer (wifes car)closed his doors due to the economy, the service manager told me that the only oils that were shipped to them from Ford were a partial synthetic and a full synthetic. Synthetics are here to stay. Just use a good one. Not running a synthetic in any BMW vehicle will void your warranty. Food for thought!
