Hey, my name is Dane and i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a project I've been thinking about doing. I have a stock 98 Jeep Cherokee with the straight six and 4 speed automatic trans. I have been thinking about putting the 3.9L 4BT Cummins in it. Does anyone know where i could find adapters for the trans or would i have to change to a different trans? Can any one give me any advice about how i should go around doing it? like what i can keep what do i have to change anything would be great

You can try fordcummins.com or google Cherokee diesel engine swap. i have a 90 Cherokee and was thinking of the same swap. the 4bt is tall and about 800lbs. smaller size and less weight would be ideal. Toyota made a smaller diesel engine 4cyl. that would be perfect.

I've been thinking about the same thing for my Jeep although mine is a "Grand" very fancy.

We did an article about swapping in a VM Motori 2.8L. They came with them stock over in the UK and Australia. Maybe you could get one of those? Hard to come by.
4BT might be more practical. You might have to chop the oil pan?

Have you looked at a benz diesel from an old 80s 300. The exhaust manifold is on the right side plus it can out rev the 4bt and is a lot lighter.
