Looking to put a 5.9 Cummins in my 76 Ford Ranchero. Car has been in the family for years. Right now it has a 351M with a C4 automatic and a Ford 9 inch rear. Does anyone make an adapter plate to go to the C4 or do I need to find a C6 automatic. Who makes a good reasonable adater plate? Thanks.

The Cummins motor is way to heavy for that swap. also it is too tall. the motor is about 1200 pounds. the drive line and axles will not stand up to the torque. look for a smaller 4 cyl. diesel. like isuzu.

I realize there will need to be alot of changes but if the 5.9 Cummins won't go I would just as soon not do it. I'm sure I saw a rat rod and a couple of muscle cars with the 5.9 in them..........Maybe it won't work at all.....Just a dream I had......

It's not impossible, it's just that to do it right might take a lot more fabrication and work than you originally expected. As sacrilegious as it might sound, I'd say a good candidate for an engine swap into a Ranchero might be a Duramax. They're quite a bit lighter than the Cummins, and you can get plenty of power out of them.

Just look on YouTube. There are lots of cars/trucks on there that guys have stuffed a 5.9 into that you would never think would fit.
2002 Dodge Ram 6 SPD Fass pump, afe cold air, mbrp 4" ss exhaust, 275hp RV injectors, edge ez, isspro gauges, South Bend clutch, track bar updated to 03-07 style, dss steering stabilizer system, 285 Cooper Discover
