looking at air dog fuel pump for my truck and i suspected that there wasnt enough pressure thats probably why its acting like its starving for fuel. also it only seems to give trouble when the tank is below a 1/4. so ill save up for that pump. wow these trucks are expensive compaired to 80's & 90's models.

I put a Holley blue inline right after the tank and it cured all of my delivery problems. It was $150 plus I used fuel injection fuel line and bought the inlet and outlet nipples totaling around $200 for everything. Took about 2 hours to install. BTW, you do not need the fuel pressure regulator that comes with it. Kept my stock pump in its current position in line as it was working alright but is a weak point in the system.
Great dependable pump for alot less ***

Yeah OK. . .was that a fuel injection pump?  The fuel regulator in the CP3 can only handle high pressure over 35 PSI for so long.  That's why I said to use a pump made for the application.

The Holley blue is NOT a fuel injection pump. It provides a steady 12-14 psi to the injection pump which is not harmful and very benificial to injection pump life.
It is a quality, dependable, lower priced pump for the application as many many peeps already know.
Have never heard any negetive problems with this set up.

the holley blue doesnt put out over 22 psi and puts out more then enough flow. it would not effect the gauge reading at all.. the problem could be with the tank canister that holds the pump in tank since you are having gauge problems. they have been some cases where they have broken in 2. the best thing to do is to drop the tank and check the canister out and the wiring. as far sasyou finding it funny i am guessing this probably your first ctd and you are basing your pump opinion on what you have read or heard. the fass has not been around or used that long ago. we have had to use other products that worked and did not cost a lot. any body that wanted to help would try to diagnose the problem not throw parts and then smile when stuff did not work. by the way if its a problem with the tank pick up canister your golden solve all fass will not fix the problem

your 00088 code has nothing to do with the lp due to the fact the cp3 controls the rail pressure not the lp the other code is due to the intank pump problem and will keep showing up due to the fact that the factory tank pump is dead or not being used. the rail pressure could be from a bad or dirty FCA

pbrbullhauler you are the best!!! I thank you for you knowledge and help. I am still rather new to cummins and still have a lot to learn so forgive me for asking what the abbrievations mean in your last post, like lp and fca. so basicly i think that you are saying take the tank out and check and if needed replace the fuel pickup system. I saw a add in the diesel pro mag.of a company that has a replacement intank system (think it was air dog)do you know of it. I also am wonderind if this may have something to do with the 12 mpg's that ive been getting from the start . the only thing that i dont understand is that for 8k miles from the date of purchase it was fine then all of a sudden it went haywire and consistantly has been doing the same thing every couble hundred miles. maybe the codes were cleared for sale and just took that long to resurface? I am starting to get the impression that someone got rid of a headache however i love the truck and cummins 10 times better than the fords ive been used to so i want this issus solved.

yea it good have been cleared for the sale but it could have been a developing problem and just finally got bad enough. lp is lift pump fca is fuel control actuator. controls the rail pressure. no never heard of it before

Someone needs an attitude adjustment.

I tried to tell them to use a specific pump for the application.  But what do I know.  I've only been doing this for 42 years.

Time to open mouth and change feet

BP

First of all, what makes you think I read all this?  Do you believe everything you read on the internet? You don't know what I do or know.  I don't brag about the diesel I burn. . But I too run a fleet of Dodges.  And yes they earn their keep.  It was learned a long time ago not to take a cheap route.  You know the factory lift pumps on first and 2nd gens were crap, I do too.  Lost many a CP3 as a result.

I am reluctant to say too much because of the attitudes forums bring out.  You guys just proved my point. But I already know, after using one in a pinch, the Holley pump is not sufficient to do the job properly.  I am not thrilled about dispatching a 2nd truck to snatch a load from some tow yard.  Our loads are very valuable and depend on us getting them there on time.  That's why I am still doing this after 35 years.  Because we take care of our trucks with dilagence.

Never lost a trans, engine and one rear in well over 12,000,000 miles of Dodges.  That didn't happen by being cheap and taking short cuts.  Averake load is 12,000 pounds.  All automatics too.

I have 4-10's on their way. . .  Everything will get retrofit with appropriate upgrades before they even see plates.

Nuff said.
