First of all, what makes you think I read all this? Do you believe everything you read on the internet? You don't know what I do or know. I don't brag about the diesel I burn. . But I too run a fleet of Dodges. And yes they earn their keep. It was learned a long time ago not to take a cheap route. You know the factory lift pumps on first and 2nd gens were crap, I do too. Lost many a CP3 as a result.
I am reluctant to say too much because of the attitudes forums bring out. You guys just proved my point. But I already know, after using one in a pinch, the Holley pump is not sufficient to do the job properly. I am not thrilled about dispatching a 2nd truck to snatch a load from some tow yard. Our loads are very valuable and depend on us getting them there on time. That's why I am still doing this after 35 years. Because we take care of our trucks with dilagence.
Never lost a trans, engine and one rear in well over 12,000,000 miles of Dodges. That didn't happen by being cheap and taking short cuts. Averake load is 12,000 pounds. All automatics too.
I have 4-10's on their way. . . Everything will get retrofit with appropriate upgrades before they even see plates.
Nuff said.

if you know so much then you would relize that the 2nd gen run a vp-44 and that very few cp-3 run without the assistance of a lp. we are not trying to be a smart ass but trying to solve a guys problem. one piece of my equipment weighs 9k alone so i'm not impressed by your avg weight. like i said before fass is not the saviour for the money it cost have seen several trucks have problems with them not holding up. If you read what he has posted you mite relize that it may not be a pump problem but an issue at the tank
I burn more diesel and run more miles in a week the most of you people do in a month. ctds that have been used 97 3500, 98.5 3500, 98.5 3500,01 3500, 03 3500. those that are being used 06 3500, 07 3500. and yea these trucks earn their living

pbrbullhauler What kind of a job is to take the tank out and replace the in tank lift pump. I want to fix this with the least amount of cost and if it is the part in the tank how can i check to see if it is working rite or not. I have seen post where people have replaced the part with a upgraded factory unit, will this work and what mods can be done with only factory Lp. I an not a fuel freak and only use the truck to haul tractor and 4 horse trailer so do not need that black smoke bioling out the pipe. I reely want fuel milage better than 13 mpg that where its at now.

Well the lift pump won't help with mileage, but it will help prevent you spending over a grand on a new injector pump.
Most guys say its easier to lift the bed off the truck instead of dropping the fuel tank. I guess it depends on what kind of tools you have available. Most of the install instructions I've seen simply have you drain the tank and drill a hole for the new line. Mount the new pump and filters, prime and bleed the fuel system, and you're set.

its not hard to drop the tank if its 4x4 the hard part is disconnecting the fuel lines. to test it , mite be easier to remove the bed. that way you can have easier access tothe top of the tank while its all hooked up. the stock lp will deliver enough fuel to power a bd tripple pup on extreme with no problems

I love keyboard know it alls. . . . Breakfast food.
Laugh all you want. . . You're obviously clueless.
Keep struggling with it. .
And Gen 2's DO need lift pumps to run correctly. Oh they'll run. . . Takes the life out of the pump.
So my weights are lighter. So what. . . It's all the same shtuff in the end. . .
I'm impressed.

polaraco never claimed to be a know it all but i do know enough to know this is a 3rd generation which the fueling system is different then the vp-44. reaaly the 2nd gen need lp to run correctly gee's never knew that duh. the 3rd gen cp-3 is a totally different designed injector pump but i guess your to wise to know that since you have a fleet of 10m trucks that have never had any problems with the 12 million miles you have put on them. tell me where do you find the time to do anything else but drive since you have to avg 600k miles a year

i have the same thrown code p0628 and while i am not having all the same problems as yours, mine too at times seems low on power
i thought it was the cp3 pump, but have now found out it is the injectors having excessive fuel bypass
hope this helps - - -

OK Gents,
I am having a similar problem. But I'm getting codes P0088 (Fuel Pressure to High) and P0148 (Incorrect Fuel Delivery). Is this the same problem that has been discussed in here, just not a progressed? It only throws this code at high speed both under load and empty. Usually climbing the mountains while crossing western Maryland.
Does this mean I'm destined to blow an injector pump? What can I change or installed to prevent my truck from going down. Winter is upon us and in the mountains of WV I need my 4x4. I'm real short for time this evening. I apologise if this has been answered previously. In the morning I will have alot more time to re-examine everyones previous advice.
Thanks
Josh

could be caused by programmer. ya'll need to start running rail pressure gauges if your gonna have programmers

Agreed...I've had the clamp on my toy buying tightened by the wife. Or that would've been done already. Long story...It ran fine for like 45000miles, same program, same settings. Like the oven...set it and forget it. Now its being cranky. Still runs fine, can't tell a difference in it running. Just have that sickening feeling..that usually comes before I break something.

Codes reset on there own this morning on start-up. Lights no longer lit, and it doesn't display anything on key cycle. I'm going out on a limb and guessing that over pressured due to my heavy foot. But I agree with you PBR, I went ahead and flashed the stock settings back in. Gotta haul about 2 tons of dirt this weekend for the house. That should put enough load on it to duplicate the incidents of the past.
Will advise in a few days.
Thanks for the help.
