It will smoke alot with just a chip, compared to what, a stock tuned truck?
To the op. Tell you what get some hybrid injectors, an H2E, and a custom tuned chip and stand on it you will turn day to nite. Just make sure you don't do it on the street, seems to give the diesel crowd a bad name. Save it for the track.

i have a 01 7.3 with edge evolution only set on 80 hp. and a banks wastegate and it smokes like a freight train. no need to dump all that money in it if you just wanna smoke. i mean dang no one wants to look like a mod diesel pulling truck out there on the road.

If you have fabrication skills, build a turbo delete.

Build a turbo delete .... LOL!!! Thanks for the laugh brother, definately needed that one today.
Black smoke hurts your trucks gents. It increases your exhaust gas temps (EGT's) and you'll decrease your fuel mileage. The worst case scenario is you could melt your turbo.
You're not at a tractor pull, and the bubblegum machine (aka, police) can and will pull you over for it because it violates all the new clean air laws coming into effect.
Just don't say I didn't warn you.

well when u get into trucks with the fuel turned to em then u start rippen stuff out like first being your clutch. if you got a stock clutch in your 96 like mine unless its a auto which still aint worth a hoot it prolly wont hold up. but to answer your question like everyone else is saying a turbo delete kit or whats called a boost foler there 45$ on turbo diesel registery.

Not a boost fooler... You got to DE-turboify your truck. Stupid turbos get rid of black smoke!!!
