So heres the deal, im in the market for a new vehicle. Ive narrowed it down to a diesel or a jeep wrangler. I like the jeep because of its off road capabilities and its cheaper all around. And i like diesels cause its a diesel....what can you not like. But if i go with the diesel, most likely its gonna be a dmax.
And i expect alot of "go with the diesel" replies on here sinces its a diesel site. But i put a similar post on a jeep forum just to compare responses.

I am a college student and will be for about 3 more years. I plan on starting a business in a year or two which involves pulling trailers often. So the bottom line is im looking for the best vehicle for me in the long run.
Any advice? Pros/Cons?

In my experience, the Wrangler (specifically the JK) is a blast off-road, but is pretty miserable on the street. It's gutless and handles like crap on-road. Supposedly, the 2011s are going to get a new V6 with a lot more power, which will probably help.

Diesels (esp. the LBZ Duramax) are more fun to drive on the road, because they've got a lot more power. They're also more practical if you plan on doing a lot of towing. Basically, you need to ask yourself if you're going to be spending more time on-road, or off-road. If it's the former, get a diesel truck, if it's the latter, go for the Jeep.

Depends on if you are mechanically savvy or not. Personally, I say why not both? If you managed to find a Jeep that is a salavage, you could drop a diesel motor in it during the repair. Jeeps are relitively cheep to begin with, a 12v remanufactured engine would be around 5k. Lets say 8k for the Jeep (Wild guess, no idea), 5k on the motor, about 1k for mods do the motor since a 12v isn't that great in stock form, and a 2k core charge on the motor. And let also say 3k for trans and fab'd mounts. 19K thus far. Isnt bad.

Here's an idea ..... get both.

Use your diesel truck for the towing company you want to start, and then get a salvaged Jeep and drop a Cummins 4BT in it for your offroad rig.

You get the best of both worlds.  You won't ruin the company truck when you offroad, and you'll tow better with it than you ever could in a Jeep.

Or get a TRUCK. Like an F250. With a SOLID front axle... Much like a Jeep. I have a friend that takes his F250 anywhere a Jeep will go!
