How do I identify which engine i have. 2006 D-MAX

Hey i have an 06 D max. I have been told they came with two different engines depending on when they were built.(LLY, LBZ, or what ever they are) which one might I have and how do I tell. I probably sound like an idiot asking this, but I am just learning bout these d-max's. thanks.

Do you have the + and - toggle switches on the shifter? I'm assuming it's an automatic. If it's got the toggle on the shift lever, it's an LBZ. Also, you can tell by the VIN, but I don't know what specific letter or digit signifies the LBZ. Also, I think the LBZ had the blue & red "Allison/Duramax" fender badges.

Look at the 8th digit of the VIN.
A "2" designates an LLY and a "D" designates and LBZ.
