I got a 2001 dodge 2500 with a six inch lift. I am having issues with keeping rear tires on it. I bought a set of used tires that had approximately 75% tread left on it. I drove from california to South Dakota and back and the rear tires were pretty well used up. And any time that I hit a bump with it there is a loud bang in the back some where around the rear end and you can feel it "dog tracking" as you go down the road. If anyone has any idea as to what would be giving me these problems I would appreciate the feedback. Thanks

First question...what's your tire inflation psi? Second...how many miles on the truck? Did you install the lift yourself, or did you buy it with a lift? Finally, does the kit include lateral stabilizer bars, or not?

sounds like the rear axle is out of alignment compared to the rear. also look on the rear and make sure a leaf spring or shock mount or shock is not busted
I burn more diesel and run more miles in a week the most of you people do in a month. ctds that have been used 97 3500, 98.5 3500, 98.5 3500,01 3500, 03 3500. those that are being used 06 3500, 07 3500. and yea these trucks earn their living

Ditto on what PBR said. You prolly need a 4 wheel alignment if you're lucky, otherwise something is broken.
I've got over 20,000 miles on a set of BFG AT KO's and they still look new.

I bought it with the lift on it and as far as psi goes for the tires I checked them right before I left for the road trip. I'm going to say it doesn't have stabilizer bars on it. I did a quick glance at what everything looked like in the rear suspension and it looked ok to me but I could have missed a broken shock mount. I am currently deployed to the desert so as soon as I get back I plan on going over it with a fine tooth comb. I was just wondering if any of you all had some thoughts on where I should start looking.

Where you deployed at ... the Stan or the litter box? I'm in the litterbox on a small truckstop south of V-ville.

Sounds like your rear x could be moving laterally under your truck while going down the road. A track bar or lateral stabilizer bar may be necessary if you just picked up this truck this may be the reason the person before you got rid of it. basically the x is moving side to side in corners and causing the tires to scuff much like stock cars do when they go around the track. This could also be caused by loose or worn linkage like shackles or hangers and broken leaf perches. It is possible with as much lift as you have that its just the springs themselves flexing then of coarse you would need one of the aforementioned bars.

Yeah I know it's pretty chill here. My afsc is fire protection and we got a busy airfield here so I do stay pretty busy here.

Well be safe man. Once you rotate back to the land of the big PX let us know and we'll see if we can help you out more.
You on a one year or a 6 month rotation?

Wow, only 4 months? I'm at 22 months right now. I'm so dry (no booze) that I think the vapors from a warm beer would make me drunk.
