The fan on my 2005 5.9l cummins decided to come apart and it blew 3 holes in the radiator. The old radiator is out but I can't get the 36mm bolt loose to remove the fan clutch. The dealer said the threads were reverse and the bolt should be turned counter clockwise as you face the front of the truck. The removal tool rented from Checker Auto isn't doing it. Pounding the tool with a hammer isn't working either. The truck is going to a mechanic in the morning unless anyone has any solid advice.
I must be rough on this truck because if its not one thing its another.

Does anyone know: Could a shop take off the fan if I put the new radiator in or does the radiator have to be out to remove the fan? Just trying to save $190 by installing the radiator and letting the shop change the fan. I can't get the bolt loose.

its easier if the radiator is out. you can undo the smaller bolts and take the whole fan assembly off and have it removed.
I burn more diesel and run more miles in a week the most of you people do in a month. ctds that have been used 97 3500, 98.5 3500, 98.5 3500,01 3500, 03 3500. those that are being used 06 3500, 07 3500. and yea these trucks earn their living

The bolts holding the fan to the fan clutch were removed as well as the bolts securing the pulling. Both fan and pulley couldn't be removed cause the 36mm bolt is through the center of each. There is some other bolts that appear to be holding a bracket to the engine that supports the 36 mm bolt and pully but not sure what else they hold.

I just pulled engine out 2005  2500 it comes off to the left  facing it you must tap it with 4# hammer and long drift the more it runs  the tighter it gets and will rust  up so hit it like your mad at it, not just tap it
