Hey everyone. On my way home this evening my truck started idling a little faster than normal. The truck runs fine other than that. I can notice it while in Park and while stopped at a light. When I do put it into Drive or Reverse it seems to idle down (when starting from park). The fuel filter has been replaced less than 15k miles ago, the fuel pump isn't that old. There are no warning lights and at speed it drives fine.Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
How cold is it where your at? When its cold my truck does same thing. It idles up to 1000 rpm. When you touch brake it idles back down. If this is what you talking about then its just the high idle kicking in and that is normal. You didn't mention the air temperature when your truck does this. Its about 25 or lower when mine does. Hope this helps.
Here in Salt Lake City, Utah. It has been in the 40's lately. Looking into it more since I posted. It appears that my fan clutch is going out. I need to verify that for sure, but it is looking like that is the case. They call it a Electric Thermal Fan Clutch on the '04 and it is spendy. $280-$400 for the part. This link has some good information on it.http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/fan-clutch-noise-saga-t285046.html
Try using something to block off part of the radiator to prevent it from cooling down below normal operating temps. It'll high idle when the temps are too low.-Kris
